NTI Upstream is a full-service publisher dedicated to advancing the conversation about issues of health and social welfare. Our catalogue comprises works of nonfiction directed at everyday readers as well as reference materials intended for clinical professionals. We are inspired by breakthroughs in research and by exceptional stories that relate to health and mental health, pregnancy and parenting, substance use and addiction, and early childhood and adolescent development.

Distributed by Small Press United, a division of Independent Publishers Group, our publications reach a loyal customer base as well as general adult readers throughout the United States and Canada. Due to our selective submission and editorial review process, our books are routinely recognized on the national level. We are proud to say that our recent release, Coppola: A Pediatric Surgeon in Iraq, was called “essential reading for our time” by Pauline Chen, a New York Times columnist and editor of Best American Medical Writing 2009.

Guidelines

If your project falls within the guidelines of what we publish, please send a query letter including the following:

  • A cover letter explaining your proposed topic and its relevance to the audience
  • A 1-2 page book summary
  • 3 sample chapters
  • A brief annotated list of competing titles currently on the market, including a description of what distinguishes your work
  • A timeline for completion of the manuscript and any important considerations—such as your professional/literary qualifications and major conferences you plan to attend
  • A curriculum vitae or resume including prior publishing and speaking experience

Please note that if we find your project fits within our current editorial priorities, we will contact you. Given the number of manuscripts we receive, we cannot reply to all submissions.
